Prepare for major celebrity-spotting as Palm Springs International Film Festival gets under way Jan. 3, following the Awards Gala Jan. 2. The gala is considered a forecasting event for Oscar winners.
Update: Director Steven Spielberg, Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks are all scheduled to appear opening night, Jan. 4, for a screening of “The Post,” which stars Streep as Washington Post publisher Katharine Graham, who disclosed the classified Pentagon Papers.
Hanks stars as her editor and unexpected romantic interest in the film, which is one of 180 movies in the festival. Seventy-seven nations are represented at this event. Expect 39 premieres (4 world, 12 North American and 23 U.S.), including all of the shortlist of Foreign Language Oscar nominations, according to organizers.
