IDYLLWILD, Calif. — Lisa Haley and the Zydekats open the Summer Concert Series at Idyllwild Community Center on Thursday.

Expect full-spirited dance music rooted in Americana, Cajun/Zydeco, Irish/Celtic, World/Pop, Folk/Bluegrass, Blues, R&B and Jazz.

The Los Angeles Times has likened Haley to “the bluesy moans of Janis Joplin,” and she has been called “the Mick Jagger of the Zydeco” by KUCI Radio in Irvine. She describes herself as a “National Touring Act of the ‘One World Swamp’.”

“The world needs joyful music!” Haley declares on her web site.

This is a Grammy nominated band with at least 10 CDs. Their music has been used in Hollywood movies and TV shows.

Swift Pony featuring Lily McCabe and Wayne Cameron will open for the Zydekats. This is a popular duo that has returned to Idyllwild, after a move to the north, to perform several gigs over the summer.

The series will continue every Thursday through Aug. 20. Opening acts will begin at 6 p.m. Main shows start at 7 p.m. There will be opening acts for all except the Big Bands.

Many people like to go early, stake out spots with portable chairs and snacks, and visit with friends.

July 9: Llew Matthews Quintet (easy listening). Opener Paul Carman.

July 16: The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra with Nancy Knorr of The Pied Pipers  (Jimmy Dorsey Show). No opener.
